It's only been out for two months, but Avatar, the animation movie that was seven years in the making, is now officially the top grossing movie ever.
James Cameron makes history by smashing his other hit film off the top spot. Titanic took $1.84 billion globally at the box office in the late 90s, but with Avatar now at $ 1.843 billion, it's certain that the animation film will be the first movie to cross the $2 billion mark at the global box office.
It's worth pointing out though, that compared to ticket sales Titanic is still way ahead. Average ticket prices globally have risen more than 50% since the 90s, with Avatar demanding more per ticket to view in 3D.
However, it's still early days. Avatar continues to do astonishing business.
