Cast of High School Musical visit Manchester school

Taking a morning out from performing at The Lowry, the cast of High School Musical went along to Lancasterian School in West Didsbury to watch the school's own cheerleading team show them how it's done!  Favourite characters from the original Disney movie met the children after watching their exuberant performance.

The professional actors and dancers, who play cheerleaders in the show, were amazed by the skill and enthusiasm of the young troupe. The cast, including Hannah Leone who plays brainbox Taylor in the musical, were delighted to watch a performance of ‘Relight my fire’ that the youngsters had choreographed themselves.

Afterwards the school’s own news reporters asked the cast questions about what it’s like performing in such a successful show and how they began their careers in the business. One of the schoolboys even volunteered to take over the role of Troy and led the cast in a cheer of “Go Wildcats!”

This has been really rewarding… and reminds me why I love my job!

Hannah Leone said of the visit to the school “It has been fantastic to meet the young fans of High School Musical and see how the cheerleaders have been inspired. This has been a really rewarding experience for me and reminds me why I love my job!”

Fans of the award-winning Disney Channel Original Movie High School Musical still have the chance to see it brought to life at The Lowry until Sat 23 May 2009. First broadcast in 2006 the movie, soundtrack album, and other High School media have gone on to create a global entertainment phenomenon with children and their families across the world falling in love with the kids from East High.  The sequel, High School Musical 2 broke TV viewing records in both the US and UK when it was broadcast in Autumn 2007.

The Lowry Centre Trust is a not-for-profit charitable organisation and a registered charity.  All income supports the world-class Theatres and Galleries programme, the care and display of the LS Lowry Collection and the life-changing Community and Education work.
