Change is afoot at the Palladium

First off, Simon Webbe from boy band Blue is joining the cast of Sister Act from May 31st appearing in the role of Curtis Shank. This is Webbe's West End debut joining his fellow Blue mate, Duncan James, who is currently appearing at The Savoy in Legally Blonde. Sheila Hancock, doing double duty at the moment playing Mother Superior and appearing as a judge on Over the Rainbow, has extended her contract until the end of August. Patina Miller as Deloris Van Cartier will also stay on until the end of the run.

Sister Act has also confirmed that it will close on January 1st 2011. The show, which opened in May 2009 to great reviews, received four nominations for Laurence Olivier Awards this year.

It has been long suspected, but is now confirmed, that Sister Act is closing to make room for The Wizard of Oz which will start performing at the Palladium from 29th March 2011. Andrew Lloyd Webber's revival of the classic movie musical will star the winner of the BBC talent competition Over the Rainbow. Public booking opens 9 May 2010, but Sun newspaper and News of the World readers will be given the opportunity to book tickets in advance of this date.
