Don't Cry For Me Andrew Lloyd Webber

The Phantom himself might be weeping behind his mask after yesterday's revelation that the man behind his musical voice has fallen from number 52 on the Annual Sunday Times Rich List to number 89. Webber, the creator of Phantom of the Opera, Evita, Joseph and many other mega-hit musicals is now worth only £700million instead of the £750million he was worth last year. Perhaps we should take up a collection for him?

What might irk him more is that his rival producer, Cameron Mackintosh, is closing the gap between them. Mackintosh, producer of hits like Miss Saigon and Mary Poppins saw his personal fortune raise from a health £350million to a whopping £635million. Compare that to the fortune of Elton John who gets by with a mere £185million.

While seeing nowhere near the same growth as Mackintosh, Mamma Mia producer Judy Craymer has seen her fortune grow by £5 to £80million – still a fraction of her male counterparts.

Perhaps now is a good time to re-evaluate Equity minimum wages in the West End?
