The BBC have announced they are to begin a spin-off series of EastEnders which will be available online.
The new show EastEnders: E20 will launch in January in a high profile 13 part series and will focus on four new teenage characters.
The sequel has been written by 13 emerging young writers aged between 17 and 22 who attended a summer school workshop, as part of the BBC's new talent initiative.
Although E20 will centre around the new characters, it is expected that the longer running stars on the soap are to make cameo appearances.
Each online episode will last between six and twelve minutes, three times a week, with extra behind-the-scenes footage added regularly.
Together they can exploit the creative potential of the web to create new online drama experiences under the umbrella of the EastEnders brand
Simon Nelson, BBC Vision controller, said of the launch: “EastEnders: E20 is an opportunity to develop the BBC's expertise in drama production by matching new young talent from the TV industry with the best creative new media talent.
“Together they can exploit the creative potential of the web to create new online drama experiences under the umbrella of the EastEnders brand.”
EastEnders celebrates 25 years in Albert Square in February 2010.
