Boyzone star Stephen Gately died of natural causes, according to an official post-mortem.
Gately died on Saturday evening, a result of fluid build up on his lungs. Experts say he suffered a pulmonary oedema.
There has been speculation in the media that the singer may had been drinking heavily or had possibly taken drugs. Although this could not be established, the court official was clear – neither of these were the cause of death.
Further tests are to be analysed to confirm the results found.
Gately was just 33 years old. His partner, Andrew Cowles, is said to be “devastated”.
His fellow band members released the following statement: “We are completely devastated by the loss of our friend and brother, Stephen.
“We have shared such wonderful times together over the years and were all looking forward to sharing many more. Stephen was a beautiful person in both body and spirit. He lit up our lives and those of the many friends he had all over the world.
“Our love and sympathy go out to Andrew and Stephen’s family. We love you and will miss you forever, ‘Steo’.”
