Surviving Actors is gearing up to help actors succeed

When something sounds too good to be true, it usually is. When someone says something is “free”, we generally expect there to be a catch.

Yet this is certainly not the case with the Surviving Actors convention taking place today (Saturday 22nd January) at Sound nightclub in Leicester Square.

The point of Surviving Actors, which is being sponsored for a second year by Fourthwall and The Drama Student, is to assist performers in what can be a thoroughly tough career. Organiser Felicity Jackson (pictured) understands that actors often struggle emotionally and financially, so it has been “imperative to offer this event without any charge to the actor” she says.

“Tomorrow is going to be incredibly busy, we’ve had such a big response. I know that actors from all over the UK will get so much from the day and will leave with increased confidence in their career, and loads of freebies too. I’m very excited,” adds Jackson.

I think it’s so important that actors use the day to absorb as much as possible.

Fourthwall’s Phil Matthews will be presenting the official Surviving Actors film. During the day’s filming, he will be covering the seminars, workshops and exhibitors, and is looking to catch up with as many actors as possible to discuss the day’s events. He will also be giving away prizes throughout the day, which include a Video CV filmed with Alan O’Duffy. Having worked at the BBC, O’Duffy will film a 40 second professional clip of an actor introducing themselves and their career experiences so far, perfect for an actor’s website.

Other prizes on offer include Nancy Bishop’s extremely useful book “Secrets from the Casting Couch”, as well as loads of other industry books to assist actors in their career.

“Surviving Actors is all about helping performers, and I’m very proud that Fourthwall and The Drama Student are back as the official sponsor,” explains Matthews (pictured left). “Not only that, I’m thrilled to be presenting the film again this year.

“I think it’s so important that actors use the day to absorb as much as possible. We’ll also be making it a fun day and I can’t wait to give away these prizes which will continue to support actors after the event ends.”

Actors can expect to receive help and advice in all areas of their career, including finding professional acting work, getting their marketing material up to scratch and finding part time flexible work to help pay the bills.
