It was the surprise victory at this year's Olivier Awards. The Mountaintop, a play penned by American playwright Katroli Hall, beat off stiff competition for Best New Play.

Having received its world premier at Theatre503, a pub venue in south London. The production was picked up by commercial producer Sonia Friedman, who transferred it to the Trafalgar Studios.

Since the win on Sunday evening, the theatre world have rallied for the production to return and Friedman has confirmed that she is planning to restage the show.

We took it off at the very point when the momentum had built, only because the theatre wasn't available.

Speaking to The Stage, the producer said: “My colleague Tali Pelman and I have been wanting to bring it back ever since it finished its run, because we knew it was unfinished business - we took it off at the very point when the momentum had built, only because the theatre wasn't available.”

“Now, we absolutely intend to bring this back to the West End. David Harewood, Lorraine Burroughs - subject to their availability and them saying yes, which I really hope they will - the intention is to do it as soon as we can.”

The production ran at the Trafalgar Studios for seven weeks and Friedman felt the play, set on the eve of Martin Luther King's assassination, could have continued for a lot longer.

The producer also indicated the possibility of a Broadway production.
